What To Do After An Accident

Accidents can be stressful, scary and can cause mental anguish or even serious injuries. They can cost thousands of dollars in damages and can cause issues in anyone’s life.

A couple common accident stats that may help you ease your mind:

  • Police respond to an estimated 6+ million accidents a year

  • Fatal car accidents make up well under 1% of accidents a year

  • The vast majority of crashes do not involve any injuries at all

  • Most minor accidents are resolved within 2-4 weeks

What to do in the event of an accident:

  • Take a deep breath make sure you and everyone in your car is safe

  • Access the situation, is it safe to get out of the vehicle and check on the other’s involved in the accident? If so, do so.

  • If it not safe do not exit the vehicle. Drive the vehicle to a safe location. The side of the road or into a nearby parking lot.

  • If your vehicle is not running, call 911 and wait for the appropriate authority to give you directions on how to proceed.

  • In the event of a minor accident exchange your information and in a safe and calm matter

  • Contact your insurance company by calling the number on the back of your ID cards

  • Feel free to update your agent by calling their office and ask them any questions you might have
