How to save money on auto insurance without sacrificing coverage.

In this time of economic unrest being able to save money and maintain similar coverages can be difficult. Read below to learn more about how to save money without making detrimental changes to your insurance.

  • As always give your agent a call:

    • Each policy is different so different changes can be made to save money for each policy.

    • Auto Policies are super dynamic and some changes have larger or smaller effects on the premium being charged.

    • Home policies have tighter restrictions and changes have smaller effects on the overall rate.

  • For home policies, there is less you can do to save money but there are a few things to check on:

    • Sometimes homes can be overinsured so double check with the “replacement cost report” to make sure you are not paying for coverage you do not need.

    • Read over the policy. If the information is incorrect, correcting it might save money on the policy.

    • Read over the “replacement cost report” and make sure that you are not paying for home features that do not exist. Replacement cost reports are automatically generated based off of information on the home. Sometimes you might be paying for a custom grade kitchen when it might be builder grade.

  • For auto polices there is a much wider range of changes that can be applied to save money:

    • Annual mileage. Keep track of your own mileage over time. If your policy has you rated for more miles than you are driving ask your agent for help adjusting it for you.

    • Ask your agent for any discounts that might apply to the policy. There are often discounts that companies offer but just require a little work on your end that can lead to big savings.

    • Sometimes a move into a new zip code can save money as well because all zip codes have their own rate assigned to them.

    • Keep your policy updated at all times. Did you sell a vehicle and never notify your agent? Or maybe a driver moved out, and you never had them removed. Not being up to date has cost people hundreds if not thousands of dollars over the years.

The best thing you can do is keep in contcact with your agent. Develop a rapport with them so you can always get a straight answer with no hassle.
